Greenleaf calls for inquiry into Phila. courts

Saying the Philadelphia criminal justice system is "in disarray," State Sen. Stewart J. Greenleaf and eight fellow senators on Wednesday proposed to create a Senate advisory panel to investigate the city courts and recommend reforms in laws and court rules. Greenleaf said he was acting in response to an Inquirer series on the city courts that he said "raised serious concerns."

Bill would extend ban on dog racing to simulcast events

After six years of expanding gambling opportunities across the state, Pennsylvania lawmakers are drawing the line at greyhound racing. They've banned dog races, and Sen. Stewart Greenleaf, a Montgomery County Republican, wants to prohibit televised simulcasts of races in other states. His bill would make it a misdemeanor to show dog races for gambling. "The more that we encourage this industry, the more the abuse will go on," Greenleaf said.
