Re-Elect Senator Greenleaf

About

The Philadelphia Inquirer calls Stewart Greenleaf “a serious, moderate and able lawmaker who is among Harrisburg’s best.” (5/10/06) Non-partisan GovNet.org ranks him as one of the state’s most effective lawmakers when it comes to passing common sense legislation that helps our families. (10/2006)

Why? Because Stewart Greenleaf is one of us -- someone whose understanding of the concerns of our families and seniors makes him an effective voice fighting for our needs in Harrisburg.

A lifelong resident of Upper Moreland Township, Stewart attended Upper Moreland High School, graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and earned his law degree from the University of Toledo. After graduation from law school, Stewart returned home to get married, raise a family and begin his service to our local communities.

Stewart’s service to our community began locally, in the Bucks and Montgomery County District Attorney’s offices. There, he worked to keep our children, seniors and families safe by prosecuting criminals. In Montgomery County, Stewart worked as an Assistant District Attorney and rose to become Chief of the Appeals Division.

Looking to give back more to the community he had called home for his entire life, Stewart made the decision to run for public office and was elected by his neighbors to serve as an Upper Moreland Township Commissioner. It was in this position that Stewart proved his abilities at providing common sense, moderate leadership that helped real people...people who then urged him to run for – and elected him -- State Representative. The people of the 12th District then chose to send Stewart to the State Senate to continue his positive work on their behalf.

As our Senator, Stewart made our seniors and families his top priority – especially when it comes to protecting their hard-earned tax dollars. Stewart has worked to reduce onerous business taxes that drive away job creators, and continues to fight out-of-control government spending.

Of course, Stewart’s work on behalf of the people of Pennsylvania extends far beyond fiscal issues. By using his knowledge of the criminal justice system, Stewart authored numerous laws that help keep our children and families safe, and criminals behind bars.

Stewart has also fought for common sense issues that receive little attention, but make a big difference. Perhaps the best example of these is his authoring of Pennsylvania’s Puppy Mill Law that helped crack down on abuses in the dog-breeding industry.

Respectful of his hard work, leadership and proven ability to get results, Stewart’s colleagues in the Senate appointed him to many important committees such as: Appropriations, Banking and Insurance, Consumer Protection, and Professional Licensure. He also currently serves as the Chairman of the Judiciary Committee and is a member of the SEPTA board.

Stewart enjoys the outdoors and participates in many activities. A former high school and collegiate athlete who played Division 1 basketball, today he enjoys kayaking, running and has a black belt in tae kwon do. He and his wife, Kelly, have made their home and raised their family in Upper Moreland.
